Fun games last night which started from about 10:00 CST to 3:40a CST. BC played like Choc; kept following me and shooting my arse (bastid :) ). Props to a somewhat good yet annoying strategy. Won't work when there's other shooters on my team though.

Some concerns about balancing teams in terms of shooters. As a lone shooter on my team, there was just no way i am playing against dash, grreat, and pac so i asked to keep dash on my team since he wouldnt need a colour change (although any 3 of them would be fine). Scrum relies heavily on BM so there was just no way...
Also later that night, teams were imbalanced with the other team full of shooters yet we we're still seeing some leeroys that obviously had no chance of scoring. Leeroys from Musick and some BMT folks. Few from me and the rest of my team too but at least they had a chance of going in. I also kept seeing others race to the scrum while a person from the opposing team is almost in range of shooting them.. knuckleheads

One thing I can't stress enough on is man-to-man defence. If you've ever played with me "2on2" (either an actual 2on2 or 2on2 at the goal) and you are running the scrum, you'd notice that most of the time i will let one defender go after you (I'll shoot him up some if and only if no one is shooting me) and I would go after the other one closer to the goal. As a runner, you should know how to use terrain to your advantage..always face the defender if its one-on-one. Now, as the runner, what you want to do is either take the defender to school and trust me to kill the other defender in time or just block him out or you could spank him (not a good idea if more defenders on the opposing team are coming to the goal - your radar is your new girlfriend). Doing what I do IMO, gives you (as the runner) the chance to improve scrumIQ and redeem yourself  If the situation was switched (I the runner), I would want you to let me take care of one of them while u take care of the other. I think w00t has noticed me doing this.

One thing that's funny is when theres a camper and you and your buddy are headed to the goal with the scrum. the defender is a better shooter than player A, who is thinking of blocking. Player A goes for the block meanwhile Player B is bumper-to-bumper with Player A, scrum goes to Player A, Player A gets shot out, other team scores, Players A&B run home to their momma. As player B you should not be so close to player A and try to be as angled as you can. Theres a 33% chance that Player A will bump the defender to the opposite side which creates an opening. If he's bumped to the side where you're coming from, then you can shoot him out as he will probably be badly damaged from being shot by Player A.

A smoking tank in the goal is still good. My teammate is coming in to the goal, theres one defender (you) in the way, I'm smoking badly. Hey you know what, since you don't want to get your arse out of the goal for a few secs just to shoot me out, I'll just wait over here and take cover so that the you cant shoot me and wait till my teammate is near the goal. I'll also angle myself about 90 degrees or more with respect to my teammate since i know the turrets can only turn so much. Once the defender takes aim at my teammate (the runner) I come out of hiding and we can both shoot the hell out of the you. If I get shot out, then thats fine, I've already dealt significant damage right when you took your aim off of me. 2gunsown1kthxbai. Did this to pac last night.. not sure if he noticed.

There's no need to go after a defender thats already outnumbered. Period. Just go to the goal and block out any others heading there or spawning there.

Its good to see a bunch of people have improved their game a little, like meatpuppet, and stink.. where is that guy, i told him he will surpass me soon but I guess hes on vacay. Stiff is a fast learner but still needs more firepower and also needs to watch the radar and block out incomming defenders instead of just lurking around the goal.. read the above paragraph (this also goes to a hell of a lot of people - just thought id mention this under stiff's name since he will learn to do this as he reads)

That's it for now, Dj out :) .

-if you have a chance to come out of the goal early and not be shot, then do so, as you will have more space to dodge the blocker. If there's no way for you to reach the runner, you might as well stall and just get in their way and pray that your teammates reach the goal in time.
-if the goal is on a somewhat steep hill, you could push the blocker as he tries to come up
-you could try to dodge their blocker by backing up sideways as he tries to ram you.. not as easy as it sounds sometimes
-try to angle yourself so that when the blocker bumps you, you are in line with the runner.. doesnt work too well but what the hey
-use terrain as cover so u can damage them without being dealt as much damage (gotta know how much the turrets can turn). try using their blocker as a shield from the other player too especially if you are a good bmer
-hide behind objects so u dont get hit, come out when needed :tankerhappy1:
-expect a juke. 14/15 times you will steal the scrum.
-study newton's laws

heh those are just my strategies. would love to hear from other people too

I personally center my strategy in such a case on using the blocker. Breaka covered it for the most part, but I'll give it a go anyways.

-Shove the blocker either into the carrier or into the carrier's path. Harder than it sounds, but good execution makes for a fumble.
-If they're coming from a distance, shoot up the blocker at all costs short of your life. If the blocker is gone, you have a much better chance of taking on the carrier, even if you're smoking badly.
-If you can't do either of the above, angle yourself to hit the carrier. This takes a lot of experience and luck, but it happens. (Execution of this is harder but more successful when on a hill.)
-If all else fails, stall. Ram them into trees, force them to go around, and block the goal with your tank. And above all else: let your corpse lay as long as possible! Best case scenerio, the carrier hits it hard and looses the scrum. Worst case, he/she goes around or pushes your corpse out of the way. Either way, you've done all you can.

-Side note: In addition to Newton's Laws, study Murphy's Laws, as applied to TT (too lazy to find the thread tonight).

Hey DJ is devaluing his top secret strategy. LOL
I think I know his strategy it's just stopping him from carrying it out that is the problem.
The games were fun last night.
Damn that Magenta couldn't shoot him out for nothing in the last couple of games.
Bmers are great to have but very often they seem to forget there is a scrum.
And some of the other players know to get them in a battle so they forget.
Hats off to ox he played very well last night. And meatpuppet was kicking butt too.
These games are very fun.
DJ you seem to know most of the players. If you have some time you should put some names together.
And the next time we play we can see who's there and try to get a perfect match going. It would be great
to play a perfectly matched game.

Lots of fun in 5v5 and 4v4, especially on the smaller maps. Sorry to everyone on my team, who had to put up with me getting in the way all the time right near the goal. Working to get rid of that particular problem.

I think the best game of the early phase (earlier than 10:30) was the one on Ricochet Ridge. Lots of good blocking and shooting (and handling of the... what's it called? The other thing, the one that's not the goal... is there another thing?... rats!) in that game.
