In recognition of Black History Month, our kid's school served fried chicken and cornbread for lunch. Many of the kids were joking that they should have had watermelon and grape kool-aid to complete the menu. No one seemed offended, no harm no foul?
Does the menu seem appropriate, or insulting? Is racial stereotyping acceptable, or does it depend on the race? What would Reverend Al think?

Re: Black History Month
I think the person who came up with that menu selection should get a slap to the side of the head and a hearty, "what the heck were you thinking?"
In this day and age of racial sensitivity, such stereotyping is not acceptable in a public governmental setting. I'm all for having your own opinion on racial stereotypes and relations, but subtly teaching school kids in honor of Black History Month that all blacks eat this stuff? There are many cultures under the umbrella of "black" to even think that this "honor" was appropriate.
I'm still offended by stir fry they served in honor of Asian history way back in junior high.
If it tasted half way decent I would not have minded the fact that it replaced those delectable tater tots.

Re: Black History Month
its is a bit of a racial stereotype but, as long as no one was offended it's OK by me. Unless the food was bad because the chicken at my JH tasted like a 4-letter word that starts with 'S', ends with 'T' and isn't soot.

It would be insulting if the kids had to use food stamps to pay for their lunch...
Where were the collard greens? Black eyed peas? BBQ ribs? Dayummm. Sounds like they don't understand true African American cuisine.

Re: Black History Month
what the...?
What with that food menu i thinks its pretty stereotypical that they would put that on the menu. Thats pretty much saying all black people eat fried chicken and corn bread im kinda tired of it, I mean EVERYONE EATS THAT STUFF be sides shouldn't the school be doing fun activities such that accually relate to Black history month such as learning about Martin luther King Jr. Malcom X, ect
oh well
