Opinions Please?

Post by Jay »

Im putting an advert out for my company in my local cinemas, and i would like your opinion on it.

I dont normally like showing people my work, but i have a short deadline and need as many opinions as i can get. This is only a draft, everything is subject to change. The voiceover will be professionally recorded, the end frame will have a better picture etc... But i just need to know if the idea works or not, as it will be shown for a year.

These are my guidelines:

3 slides
5 seconds each
Max. 35 words for the voiceover

I kinda like it. I like how you put in the little kitten to appeal to your vewers, it is a great eye catcher and a good start. You may want to have some sort of opening picture or clip at the begining instead of just white. Another good thing about it is the extra sound efects. When the cat comes up there is a small ding. It is a very nice advert so far. Good job Jay!

I had to watch it twice before I caught on, but that's probably because I'm not used to the accent and the word "advert".

If you have time, maybe try putting the kitten on in the first slide, and make the hat appear after you say "with a hat on", timed with the chime.

In the photo part of your 3rd slide, lose the LCD. We get that its a camera without it, and there would be more subject depicting the wedding scene. It took me a moment to figure out that it was a wedding scene. I looked at it several times before I noticed the groom.

The blank screen was a good move. It'll get people's attention. I honestly can't say too much about the voiceover, seeing as I really don't know what standard UK commercials sound like. If it were a US commercial, i would suggest making the voice a little bit deeper, but that's just me.

Overall, brilliant!

Ooo good idea about the hat appearing, ill send a few different versions to my marketing department, and see what they think.

The end picture will be replaced, that picture was just something i found out of my own collection, with no intention of using it for my advert. We're taking the picture tomorrow, one idea was to have the couple facing camera, but out of focus with lots of confetti, and then have the camera and the LCD displaying the couple in focus. But we'll play around with it, and take a few versions.

Well that was just my friend doing it last night as a test. But he has a comical appeal to it.. Im debating wether to get someone else to do it, but im trying to appeal to a slighty younger market of couples (18-35).. So not sure yet.

We have a completely different idea that we will try out tomorrow.. But i think i prefer this one.

Thanks for your honest opinions guys! Keep them coming, even if you dont like it, it would be good to hear why you didnt!

You may want to show things that don't last.....flowers, half eaten cake, empty wedding dress, reception hall after wedding. The clients are spending money on all of those services and that your service is a better investment that will last for generations to enjoy. The Cat in the Hat is cute but may not appeal to the parents that are paying the bill. Shoot the Cat.

I thought your use of the minimal visuals was pretty effective. If I were waiting in a cinema for a movie, it would catch my attention. It would be memorable enough that I'd consider seeking your company out. Good luck with it.
