To come to this question of the existence of God, it is a large and serious question, and if I were to attempt to deal with it in any adequate manner I should have to keep you here until Kingdom Come, so that you will have to excuse me if I deal with it in a somewhat summary fashion. You know, of course, that the Catholic Church has laid it down as a dogma that the existence of God can be proved by the unaided reason. This is a somewhat curious dogma, but it is one of their dogmas. They had to introduce it because at one time the Freethinkers adopted the habit of saying that there were such and such arguments which mere reason might urge against the existence of God, but of course they knew as a matter of faith that God did exist. The arguments and the reasons were set out at great length, and the Catholic Church felt that they must stop it. Therefore they laid it down that the existence of God can be proved by the unaided reason, and they had to set up what they considered were arguments to prove it. There are, of course, a number of them, but I shall take only a few.
The First Cause Argument
The Natural-Law Argument
The Argument From Design
The Moral Arguments For Deity
The Argument For The Remedying Of Injustice
I am interested to see if anyone has a specific reason why they think God does/doesn't exsist. If you have any other reasons, which are different from the five ive stated, then feel free to elaborate.

Hm...
Well I won't "elaborate" on my "faiths" on the internet, hehe - but I'll say that science is a large part of it.
[deep]
I believe that there is some sort of power linking all of us, good and bad, whether it be spiritual or scientific. For example, if a murder is commited, that's one more in the large worldly scale (scientificly contributing statistically), but also a reverberration is felt in the 'spiritual' aspect, in peoples' emotions, and how they live. In that way, we are all connected as one 'being' (higher power?)
[/deep]
Thus ends my slightly elaborate ramblings...

One of the many reasons I believe in God is because of Creation. It is quite apparrent to me, that this world we live in must have been created my God and not some random "big bang". Where could the bang have come from in the first place? Not to mention, our bodies are extremely complex, too complex for a random big bang to make us. (Now I know people say we evolved from Monkeys/Chimps, but it's impossible for our DNA to change that much. And those who think we came from chimps, I wonder where chimps came from?) I think God created us in his own image as stated in the Bible. Believing in God must take faith though, just as evolution, etc.

Im going to throw a spanner in the works and see what happens....
If we are talking about the "Christian" God, then lets have some fun! In this day and age, every church ive been to apart from one is way to religous. Even if they dont realise it. I dont feel teach important things.... Not things that are needed in the outside world.. Like questions which many atheists have.
"If God is Love, then why does he threaten us? Why does he tell us that if we dont do what he says, then we are doomed for an eternity in hell. Why doesnt he just say that if we Worship him, then we go to heaven. But if we dont, nothing happens, we just die."
"How can you believe the Bible? It was put together by a pagan called Constantine... There was a big meeting and he decided which books to put in the bible and which to leave out. The ones that were left out are called the agnostics, which by most churchs, are disregarded."
"How do you know your religion is right? Have you been through every single one, and then decided? Or were you brought up into it? Or got sucked in because you knew someone who was in that religion?"
I could go on, but ill leave those questions open. It'll be interesting to see how many people can answer them.

these types of conversations always seem limiting to me as no one ever offers a definition of what God is. it seems silly to ask if someone believes in something that is undefined.
i have spent the better part of my life trying to come to an understanding of what God is. to date, i have come to define God in a way that theoretically makes sense to me but i have yet to see if scripture backs up my definition. from what i remember i think it does.
that being said, i do not believe god is anywhere close to being some mystical being that crafted everything we see (or dont see) around us. depending how this thread pans out i may or may not offer my thoughts on what i believe God is and how it has shaped my faith.
