Request to become Server admin?

Well, Last night while playing at roo's, after the last admin left, RinSlow asked me to switch team members arround (it's not the first time I've been asked), and once again I had to say "I'm not a Server admin..."

And it got me thinking, why exactly aren't I one? Everyone arround me thinks i am (or think I should be one), and it's mildly furstrating not being able to do anything about it but leave some players dissapointed and hope another admin comes in.

It's been nearly 4 years now (and btw, 2 days from now it will have become 4 years! ), I'm a well behaved, respected, and one of the oldest Vets still arround (I know it sounds like a friking resume, but bare with me).

I know I was a bragger in my early days, but it's probably been 2 and a half years since I've cleaned up my act.

I've asked many a times if i could join the Admin Circle (I asume server admining is part of the Admin Circle, correct me if I'm wrong), but every time my requests have been ignored, not even denied, just plane flat out ignored. (at least a yes or no (with a reason why) would keep my mind at ease, but keeping me wondering in the back of my mind thinking that mabe some day that day might come? ).

among the many admins I've asked, only sluggy and Smacky have taken the time to discuss it with me, and they too wondered why I'm not an admin...

Don't take me wrong, I know how much work is involved in server admining to keep teams fair, but I'm ready and willing to take these Responsabilities under my wing

Seriously though, you should have been made admin by now, atleast in 1 server. Maybe you're too good!

You've been around here the whole time I have, and other than some incidents long ago about bragging, I can't think of anything but good things.

I think who gets to be admin is completely up to the server owners. I have offered to help out some of them, and some have given me the ability. Others haven't. It's up to them.

Back when KC ran madbots, I was one of his admins. He let me do that. From time to time, I've offered to admin when I saw a need. I liked doing it for a short time, but it's actually a bit more hassle than it's worth sometimes.

I guess what I'm saying is that you should be careful what you ask for... but I'd support you taking it on.

Its not about how long you've been here, or how good you are. Its about the server hoster's choice. Server hosters only choose a select few people to admin, and then only the ones they trust. Take Ollvar for example, he's been on here a lot less time than you Cadc, yet he is an admin at Roo's. If every long-term vet was an admin, there'd be an abundance of them, and you'd never see a thread again about there not being an admin. However, the server hoster will pick those people they trust to admin their server (and their money indirectly), and then only if more admins are needed.

Talking to the other admins won't help you either. They have no more control over it than you do. I suggest you send an e-mail to a server hoster (more than one if you want a broader answer), and see where it gets you. Other than that, I suggest just playing the game and not worrying about it. If asked, I'd be an admin too, but unless I am, I'm going to enjoy the game for what its worth (which is considerably more than $20!).

Also you should always brag, and loudly! - but not take yourself seriously doing so...

Actually I don't throw server codes at people just because they're vets. I've been here 3.5 years and i'm only admin in Sparrow's, and I'm not complaining.
