CBS Fires Don Imus Over Racial Slur
Jackson called the firing “a victory for public decency. No one should use the public airwaves to transmit racial or sexual degradation."

Said Sharpton: “He says he wants to be forgiven. I hope he continues in that process. But we cannot afford a precedent established that the airways can commercialize and mainstream sexism and racism."
Well, I was going to post some 50 Cent lyrics to make my point, but I just couldn't do it. There are too many to choose from that include "nigga" or "hoe" and all sorts of other profanities and it was just going to be too indecent to post here . Google it yourself if you really want to know, but the point is, black entertainers are given a pass on this one since their hook is the very racial and sexual degradation that Jackson so despises. Of course, you can't really fire 50 since he's making money hand over fist from all races for everyone involved, but it would just be nice to hear Sharpton and Jackson, or at least those who are interviewing them, mention the double standard.
"The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it." - Thomas Jefferson

Actually this has been brought up to Jackson and Sharpton ad nauseum. Regardless, I'm not sure how respected these two men are in the black community. From past conversations with my friends they really pay no mind to them at all. I personally do not respect either of them.

I will tell you this. Something good is taking shape from this Imus dilly. I listen to talk radio all day at work and almost everyone is sharing the same feelings. "We're sick of it...," is the connotation that keeps reverberating throughout the airwaves.

What are they sick of? They're sick of the bitter truth that in the year 2007 we're still concerned with anothers skin color.

I really hope this picks up a full head of steam and people such as Imus and rappers, or any other style of music, with negative views and styles get ripped from their professions.

In regards to Imus, this guy has always been a scumbag. He won't be missed.

I made a comment on this forum recently about free speech. I have a very biased opinion towards free speech. I feel that the right of organizations such as the KKK, best example for this thread, should be prevented from abusing free speech. Any group or individual that promotes hate should promptly lose this right.

Imus is a "scumbag" and the people sponsoring his show finally did the right thing.

Look, I apologize already. It was a terrible joke putting Napalm's Head on Tally. It's certainly not the best work I've ever done. His head isn't the right scale and part of the neck is sticking out, but to start a thread about...

...hmmm. To quote Emily Litella;
"Nevermind".

i never heard of him till yesterday when I heard talk of it on the news radio

but it sounds to me like he should have been given a second chance to clean up his act and think a little more before saying any witty comments.

I think what Imus said is comparable to your Grandma saying she's wearing "bling". It was an old guy trying to be funny by using hip slang. I don't think he had any idea what he was saying was so offensive, as such language is so common today's culture. The fact that he was fired before the last day of his radio-thon where he collects money to help sick children makes this even more insane.
Sharpton and Jackson are media whores who rely on racial turmoil to survive. Reverends? Isn't the Bible all about forgiveness? Why wasn't a sincere apology enough? Why wasn't Rosie fired? Who's next? Will hip-hop music be next?
If there's going to be a double-standard as to what race is allowed to use certain words, the I demand a rule book be written clearly defining what words belong to each race. I call dibs on "chick" and "dude" for Whitey.

It wasn't a sincere apology until the protests came. His initial reaction to the people's reaction was "you people need to get a life". It was only when sponsors, network bigwigs weighed in that he was "apologetic". Also, you had to listen to the comments preceding and following the words. They were worse than the term itself.

Finally, it's not like this is the first time that he has done something like this. He has quite a history of insulting all groups. It just so happened that insulting bunch of hard working college girls was the proverbial straw. Don't make it sound like he was an angel who made one mistake and we axed him.

In terms of the volunteer work, I don't think a bad deed is canceled out by a good deed. Do you think all that good works Hamas and Hezbollah are doing in Palestine "cancels" out their terroristic activities? Or the fact that Chavez "donated" oil to the poor in Boston cancel out his otherwise nefarious activities?
