Unfortunately this attitude all puts you in the dinosaur category. If you don't evolve into birds, you die out. :D
Shooting seems to have become the style, perhaps *because* it's easier, and more people are capable of learning it quickly, and it can bring them closer to being competitive with the old guard.

Re: hmmmmm....
So... how about a little server rebalancing act? Make blasting less useful.
Some possibilities-
•Lessen the value of shooting by modding the damage done.
•Install a goal boundary zone... enter it, you could die. (Like the anti-camper setup)
•A power-up only game... only powerups cause damage, guns have no effect otherwise.
I'm one who prefers a game slanted more toward the running style. I remember someone had a server going for a while. I think he called it "Runner's Scrum" but it disappeared.

Re: hmmmmm....
yeah i see what you mean lgm but modding the game would ruin TS for me and probably most of the people out there. I like the idea but it's a little much.
All that said, the game has evolved and people have gotten better. It'll be very hard to changed it back to the way it was.

Re: hmmmmm....
I think a light goal poison fog would be sufficient to drive the players out from the goal.

Re: hmmmmm....
I don't think the poison goal would really make the game better. camping in TS is not a problem, and as it is a good strategy at times. i am intrigued though be LGM's idea of decreasing the damage of the shots. that could rebalance the running/shooting scenario in an interesting way. certainly would be open to testing that out.
again, not to take anything away from shooting or shooter dominate players, but to encourage more dynamic play (vs. bm w/a flag). you wouldn't have to alter damage much to make the game a tad more interesting i'm thinking. 4 clips instead of three (or what it takes to kill dj and Get some anyway...be nice if we all got that benefit
).

Re: hmmmmm....
I agree with weez that at my current skill level, I don't don't belong at the top of any list. However, a few weeks back, I did play for a few hours and the rust shook off fairly quick. Shooting is the hardest skill to get back.
True skill is playing intense games while trying to admin a busy server. Not sure if I'll ever be at that level of play again.
All the talk of 3on3 and different play styes made me think of an aspect of the game that I don't think has been mentioned often, that being a "6th sense" or "magic" that happens while playing with certain teammates. I know many of the top TSers know what I mean. GS, Phiz, Jang, Mags, and a few others were some my favorite teammates because of the "magic" factor. Felt like I was a brain in a tank, and what makes TS so special.

Re: hmmmmm....
You know back when I played more frequently. Yes I did play more frequently for a while we had a late night owl games. They'd fire up around 11pm PST and there was a dozen or so of us playing with regularity. The old 58 second lag was working for me and I had knew when it was coming by feel. It got so you knew how each player was going to move and attack. Lots of close games almost regardless of who was on what team. I honestly think that that part of the game is gone. Everyso often there's little bits of it with some players but I'm so rusty now I tend to screw it up.
I'll be honest I've lost most of my interest in the game. I just stop by now to see what is going on with these crazy people I've never met but known for years now.

Re: hmmmmm....
Going off of LGM's post...
• Players who shoot scrum carriers only deal half the amount of damage compared to non-scrum carriers.
Or if nobody wants to ever mod TS (I stand here), stress blocking while playing to n00bs. More than we have already.

smack says " The arrow gluttony that has propagated most of the maps now has killed the art of actually running with the scrum. You don't need to run when you can string together arrows and then hit he air goal. This has been covered before."
I completely disagree with this. first of all, if you think about the stock maps you'll remember that there were alignment of arrows that could take you across the maps pretty quickly. next, the arrows greatly benefit the runner at the expense of the shooters.
I personally find this particular harangue annoying (not to pick a fight with smacky who i love deeply). I know some folks are hung up on it, but I really don't get the animosity.
Fish: i know exactly what you're talking about. i used to play so much with wootly, that he and i operated together like second nature, and there are always players that i instantly mesh with, with getsome, dj, magenta, rx coming to mind right away. baba and major p too. it's pretty cool when that happens. btw: where the F you been man? i miss you, fatty.
there, i said it.
