Re: i have an idea
Its a good idea, like I said once again, but I don't think it would work. In a server like Dash Bash, many are there for their own individual score. You see tankers striving to get as many points as possible, even though it is a team. They will put themselves in danger of being detrimental to the team to get as many points as possible. Pretty much all TT'ers do this, even though they wouldn't admit it, including me. If you want to play TT, in which one TEAM works together, then you should enter the TBML. There, a team effort is important, and nobody cares about their score.

Re: i have an idea
I'm all about the team, and the team concept, so overall I like that approach.
One area of concern is that there seem to be so many strong players using aliases in the Bm servers these days that it gets hard to try to balance teams (going into the server looking at both numbers on each team as well as quality of players).
I suppose you can wait till the score gets out of whack, but its nice to try to keep the teams fairly even.
A tricky thing sometimes for many reasons, still a noble goal.

Re: i have an idea
Very true. I am not going to lie, I use aliases probably 50% in TBM. Why? Perhaps its more of an obsession, but if I were to put a real reason it would be that I enjoy having games where I don't have distractions. If I EVER go in under an alias, I always choose the loosing team, or the team likely to loose. They are out there, but seem to be hard to find.Baba wrote:I'm all about the team, and the team concept, so overall I like that approach.

Another thing I find hard about balancing teams in TBM is that there are those that want to play, and then there are those that put so much effort into winning, it no longer is fun. If I want to win and do my best in TBM, it usually involves an immense amount of concentration. Usually if everybody is trying hard and working as a team, then it usually isnt that bad if the score is 60 to 85 at the end of a full game. Both teams tried hard, and it was all fun right? Its where you have folks not checking colors when they come in, and being delirious about it far into the game. First, I think it would be good if all players would take a second to look at the teams, and use your logic and experince in the game to see which team you should go on. For example if you see a game with...
t-34
CB
belikin
Val
bigiron
Phobik
vr
v vvds
w00t
Leopard
Cloud
Stinkfingers
Three
A bunch of old timers and a few newer folks on each team. Both teams have execptional Bmers and good strategists however think a bit more deeply.
Three, stink, Cloud and w00t have pings over 115. If you look at the other team, you see that their pings are significantly lower. So after using your judgment, what team would you pick? Of course this decision can only come through knowledge of TT players.

Re: i have an idea
This is a pretty good idea it seems; something batted around for some time I believe. I agree with some comments made here, such as Cloud's. I think we are ALL at times guilty of going into a TBM game and racking up indie points, sometimes to the detriment of the team score. I know there have been occasions where I've done that on CB's server.
Most of the time I try to think of the team score, but lets face it. That individual score taunts and tempts us to play differently. Removing it would certainly change the game play a bit. We're all humans (OK, most of us), and as such have egos, so its hard not to pay attention to that indie score.
I haven't played a game of TT in a number of weeks now, but I'll look for the server that Wings' is putting up to see how it works. That is, whenever I get around to firing up TT again.

Cloud is a man that endures long suffering, He usually joins my weak game. I go there to laugh at llik's tank names, such as teacher, the best, expert and so on. Funny thing is, when the game is about 1/2 over and he has "0" he will follow all smokers and any newbs in the server to make sure he does not score a goose egg at the end. Personally i like to go in obs and watch Belikin waste him multiple times. Anyway, good post cloud, you have way to much idle time on yer hands over there in Germany.

well I for one can't wait to try it out on someone's server. I have one question, why is it that no one ever plays indie BM? I would imagine this is the place to really show off your abilities right?
heeeey Metal yeah I remember you. so what ever happened to that PTA thing you had going?

Good points Cloud. Leagues are the only way you currently have to focus on team scores and not on individual scores (I'm ignoring armies for the obvious reason of inactivity). If we all played purely for the team, it would both draw away some players and bring about increased team play, with I think would be more fun.
I'm glad aliases were brought up too. Why do people use aliases? They either want to act like a noob or they don't want to look bad if they just play around and get a poor score. The first reason is eliminated by silencing, kicking, and even banning. The second reason is harder to counter. However, if no one sees your score, will you be more willing to play under your real name rather than an alias even on your playing-around games? I can't answer that myself, since I've never played under an alias. All I know is that it is discouraging when you're 10 minutes into a game and you see a big goose egg for your score. Has that effected my play? Absolutely; I don't like looking bad either.
I don't see the problem with it, tbh. If there are people who won't play TBM because they only care about their individual score... then you're probably better off without them, because they will be your high-risk, "I don't care about my team" type of players that hurt your team anyways.
I think this could, and should, be implemented into TS as well, though it is less of a problem there (not to say personal scores don't effect possible leroys there too, because it does).

^ There's another reason. SOmetimes I don't want to be bothered by the chatting and just want to get in a game.
One thing I've always said. Why is it so important to get an even game? I find joy in trying to help a noob team overcome a vet team just as much as vet vs vet matches.

Most people have the most fun in a very competitive, evenly matched vet vs vet set-up. You don't need that, which is all the better for you.
