Is TT as we knew it,DEAD?

Post by GRRReat »

You can't get a scrum game unless you are in PSL 16.
CTF is here now. Only problem is there is no more then 2 people in it at a time.
I could go on but what's the sense?

What seems to be happening is players look to get into game at different times. Best thing to do is join and wait. Others will come in. I think if we knew that at the top of any hour to be a good time to start playing, maybe players will run into each other more. With the nice weather here in the us , I know I'm finding myself not playing as often, but you can bet I'll be back hot and heavy when ever I can.
They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash.

Hop in, and it's amazing how often people will join in soon. I just checked my user log, and I've had about 80 people join my server in the past 24 hours. Many of those names are not known as PTT2 members.

I had some really good games lately at different odd times. I think the top of the hour is a good tip.

Well, if we all go that way, what's the chance we'll see anyone in? I just left a game with KKB and stinkfingers. I had to leave to help my kid, but it was fun. The more you try to find a game, the more you will.

Was thinking the same thing myself. After being away for a few weeks I have hardly seen a sole in the servers this week & what servers there are now are virtually unplayable for me. I miss Roo's server which is about the only thing that kept me playing. With it's demise I don't think I will be far behind.

This issue has come up several times in TT's past. Even after a few years of the game being out, many saw that nobody else was buying the game, and thought that TT was on a downhill sprial. 4 years later, and we are still playing pickup games. I see them all the time. Within the last several weeks a pickup game is harder to find however lulls like this have been common.

As CB and LGM said above, it all depends on time of day. I see that the pickup games occure later in the evening when people get home from work. As for me, I am living in Germany now and the time difference is to great for me to come on when others are. I know folks that live in Europe stay up late so they can play but I have to be up to early to do such a thing.

Doc put up a West Coast server running a lot of old maps. Hopefully we can begin to play there. I ping around 190 there living in Germany but that isnt going to stop me. I still check in every day to see if games are going on. If Thinktanks had a waiting chat room in the 'lounge,' then one might be surprised to see how many people refresh the servers to see if a game is going. If you sit in a server, people are bound to join. (depending on day of course)

I still see Thinktanks running in 10 years even with our small community. Recently I have seen quite a few demos play the orginal TT. They probaly heard about it from InstantAction. We are still playing after 6 years. That is something GG and BraveTree never expected thanks in part to our strong community.

The time when we start having to prepare a game in advanced (ie, not joining pickup games) is long off. (I hope...) Either way, a lot of the old timers come back eventually. Sort of like a cycle...

yes, i think that Winter Might actually be better for TT, cause when it's nice out you tend to go outside.

i haven't been on TT for a while, due to my broken mouse  , but i am planning to get back on ASAP. i think Cloud is right, we've had a lot of new players from InstantAction. if some people from here (i can't, i'm under 13) go there we can tell them about our version, and then more may come over.

i was disappointed about the rarity of games in CTF. however, i expect that to get better. i think the vital servers for TT are 1 Indy Scrum 2 Modded TS 1 WestCoast 2 TBM 1 BM and 1 CTF. we should have at least that many servers of those types.

@LGM - There are a few alias players in your server. Players that don't want to admit that they use a light. :whistling:

I haven't been on because when I moved the piece of junk desk that we had didn't. The computer is currently setting on the floor and I don't feel like sitting hunched up over the keyboard. The number of players come and go pretty consistently. Usually in the summer I can get a late night game going 10-11pm Pacific. Usually can get 1 or 2 good games before people start dropping off to go to sleep.

Maybe this next week I'll get my server back up... If I find the box that my old laptop is in. With Roo posting all of his .mis files I should be able to add another 50 or 60 to my rotation. I'd like to hit the 300 mark eventually. If Sheena would send me hers (like she promised) I could probably come close to that number. Then I'll just make a few more if I need to round off the numbers. My new place has a much better internet connection. Expect to see considerably lower ping for just about everywhere.
