another interesting twist may be the idea of adding "half-time" to the match. allow a 5 minute break to allow the separate teams to assess their play, and make adjustments as needed. kinda like they do in say football or basketball. may be interesting to see what kind of adjustments get made.

I am a strong believer in no breaks. Interrupts the flow, and then raises opportunities for bitching and moaning.

The map selection used to be a huge point of contention in the old days, as was the choice of server. Last time we did pre-fill the chart above to contain a whole series of pre-selected maps. Then when your turn rolled around, you would just play on whatever was there. We could do that again - I think we have a much better maps these days for 3 on 3.

hmm, interesting points...

as far as breaks between games, i agree with Rx that this a bad idea. we used to do it and 5 mins turned into 20 with people leaving server, going afk, and other such nonsense. part of the skill is being able to adjust quickly in game.

as far as the map selection goes...in all previous matchups (including this one) i requested map suggestions from the other team as well as my own team mates. i got no specific response from anyone this week unlike the previous two matches. we actually played Rogue Nuts and Dash on a map they suggested. so there is no machiavellian attempt here to disadvantage the other team. i alone suggested the map at the 11th hour due to the lack of input from anyone and i selected the map based on knowing it was a successful scrum map. Dopamine Dale was originally a Psl 7 map but has since been included in late night rotations from time to time. many players know that map very well, so i did not foresee there being any problem with it.

a bit of distinction...this is a 3 on 3 Challenge format styled after the games played by the original Champs (Bolo, Jangles, and Dj i believe) and continued by Rogue, Nuts, and Napalm in which the games were essentially stand alone matches. winners dictated the terms and challengers tried to knock them off each week. there was never pre approved maps weeks in advance. there have been 3 on 3 Tourneys where teams entered a bracket style single elimination playoff format for which maps were assigned in advance. this is not what we are doing here and i dont currently have any interest in doing that. PSL affords a much more even playing field all around too.

this format will naturally favor the previous winners for reasons that go beyond what map is played. Memph, Fish and I now have 8 games over 3 challenges under our belt and we are getting better as we are becoming more familiar with each others play. the more we win the more of an advantage we are going to have over the next challengers who more than likely will be playing as a team for the first time. i see no reason to allow challengers the luxury of selecting a map or even having input as to where the match is played. i do consider it a courtesy to ask them though and i will continue to do so and encourage my team mates to consider the challengers input. but really, this is not the format to give the challengers the best chance to win....its supposed to be hard. win and you get to dictate terms under the agreed format of first to 2 wins takes all.

that being said, t-34's team is up next...any map suggestions and when are you guys available? Sunday nights at around 10pm eastern seem to be working well. post here or pm one of us to get this thing organized.

Actually there was. Not saying we need to do this, just want to keep it straight (if we did do it I would pick better maps - I think these were chosen by computer because no one would trust anyone else to pick them). Here are some of the game registers I dug up:

if you all wanna move in that direction thats cool with me. the only maps i protest to are the ultra small roo maps as ive stated before. in the absence of input i will continue to feed the map to the hoster. my main interest is to keep the games moving.

speaking of which...there are more than enough teams now to start having some side games. now i know....everyone wants a piece of the Champs V3.0, but it might help to have a few practice rounds with other teams before taking a crack at us.

@ Rx Yes this way is fair for all .
I still think ,that all teams who is planning to play in it should submit their 3 choices of the 3v3 size maps , we can mix it up and make it a list.

I think you all should just man-up and take your expected beatings. Cycle through as fast as possible and let the only true challengers, Nuts, Dash and Rogue, get another shot. Pretenders..,
