Stars reflect your number of posts, in most cases. Alot that have 5 star ranks here, were carried over from their posting efforts at PTT1.

lots and lots and lots....I'd have to look up the exact numbers, but I think 2 stars starts somewhere between 100-150.

I believe you are referring to the "avatar".
The avatar options are found in your Profile options, near the bottom of the page. You can use a pre-installed one, or upload your own.
