I mostly use an antique program, Arcsoft Photoimpression4, but I use Gimp for .png's and .gif's.
What do you need to know about treads? Tanktread01.jpg through Tanktread07.jpg are located in your tanks folder. You edit them like you would the tank skin, just make each image slightly different so that when flashed quickly in sequence, they resemble motion. If you look closely at the seven files, you'll see what I mean. The skin veiwer is very helpful.
