Save it to your .gimp-2.2/brushes folder and give it a shot. Just made it myself. It shows up like a normal brush.
For starters, use the Pencil tool (N) with it. Click once on the screen, then hold down SHIFT and click somewhere else. Then, check "Use Color from Gradient".

I think I'll give GIMP a try. I mean JascPSP is SCREWED on my PC. Just brings up an error every time I load the flipping thing.
