I've purchased both the Shockwave & Garage Games versions of Think Tanks, and neither version has any rules of game play with them. Yet, when playing on most servers, depending on who is playing, there is always someone flaming over the "rules". These "rules" vary with the player, however, they almost always seem to be ones that would make a given situation easier for that player as an opponent. For instance, if that player is weak on firing while riding on the ruff edge of a terrain, then, the rule becomes "no rim running". Or, if dying, and trying to get to a health power up (Which that 'other' player may not see flashing on their radar if they are not dying too.), or just trying to put some distance between us so I have a better chance of not taking that fatal shot, then, I may use a series of speed ups to widen the distance, then, the rule becomes "no running away". As with many other games I play, there certainly are boundaries built into the game itself, which act to enforce the limits of play, and as a 'scripter' myself, and the fact that many of the maps on the servers are indeed mods, you can virtually enforce any type of limits, or "rules", during the game play, by what the game itself will allow one to do, and this is why there are no "rules" of a written nature. Like life, you find out where the boundaries lie by trial & error, experimentation, etc., etc. So, if the person weak on chasing down a "rim runner" wants an easier time of getting a scrumball from that person, script the mod so the tank dies within a given distance from the top of that rim, rather than a bit over it. Simple! However, I for one am not going to simply sit still in front of you, the "rule maker" and let you kill me, so that the game play is easier, nor will I not go to the other side of a map, if I'm dying and see a health powerup, because running is against your "rules", and I should otherwise just give up, sit still and allow you to put the finishing shots in me, making it so much easier on you. So, ban me if you will, as I beg you to, so that I do not mistakenly enter the server of a non-skilled "rule" maker. An etiquette poser, or an immature baby, and no-skill noob, for real, hiding their lack of talent behind NON EXISTENT RULES. Please, go get your little rubber ball, and have a friendly game of jacks.
Hey, Have A Nice Day! Later, 13inchgun

@13inchgun: We really should have a standardized rule set. Here are some universally accepted guidelines, though:
-Shooting a teammate in BM/TBM is wrong, at least without their explicit permission.
-Shooting anyone other than the ballholder in S/TS is wrong, except for accidents.
-Cliffdiving and camping are wrong in S, but not TS.
Other than that, TT ethics are as complex as real-life ethics.
Welcome to TT and PTT2.
EDIT: Nice rig, but 1140GB? Overkill? Are those the minimum system requirements for Vista or something?

Never really gone, never really part of the game.

heres how i see it:
break any rules you can on a server that has no admin OR you wouldnt mind getting banned from.. so some stupid ass (<filter??) vet can come to the forums and say "so so noob" (hate that word) " is bla bla bla camping, cliffhanging, bla bla...", just ending up making a fool of themselves.

The generally accepted rules are as follows:
-BM: Pretty much anything goes except hanging off of the edge for any reason.
-TBM: No teamkilling or cliffhanging.
-S: No shooting anyone except the person with the scrum or is closest to the scrum. Also, no cliffhanging or diving with the scrum, or camping. (These rules generally don't apply when playing a short period of scrum on a TS server while waiting for people to join!)
-TS: No teamkilling (killing a teammate for a new spawn when they're smoking is acceptable), no cliffhang or diving with the scrum. Camping is allowed.
Note: In some servers, these rules may vary. However, in most of the vet games/servers, these are the rules.

Scripting only? Not quite
Hey, this game has been around a while now.
There are a set of accepted rules that the community generally agrees on. Over time, the players have found out some things that can be done, but that ruin gameplay. These are not seen as appropriate. We have lived with "anything goes" and it isn't that great.
Servers are private now, and the owner of the server gets to set the standards of play in their server. They appoint admins who enforce the rules. It works.
In the past, there have been some characters who abuse the game by running the edges, diving, camping, teamkilling and so on. Those of us who remember them don't miss them. Its about having fun, and shouldn't be about abusing the abilities in the game, or abusing power as an admin.

Re: Only Script Rules Need Apply!
Publish The "Rules" then, if you want all to comply, but please, make sure everyone is aware of them, as it seems most simply make them up on the fly, generally once they start losing. And, as far as the comment on my HD space, anything less would be stone age, and I live in the multimedia age, and so need a lot of storage room. (Sorry, I don't use Vista either, I prefer an OS that works, not the universal standard that Bill G.'s billions has spoon fed to the sheeple of the world.) In fact, I just added 1TB more hard drive space, what with the room Hi-Def takes up! Besides, the 320 GB Barracuda's were cheap like nothing, and will blow off a single Raptor any day for speed (The Barracuda's with 16 MB of cache that is.), and they certainly have more room for the buck. However, I thank one and all for the comments, it made brilliantly clear the mentality level behind the bickering over "rules". I must apologize for my tardy reply, though, it should make brilliantly clear just how interested I am in Think Tanks, and certain mediocre minds that can be found on some of its servers.
