I wanted to thank the many folks who chimed in on my "jerky Video" issues after I had installed a new processor card and video card on my "#2 computer" last month.
I had upgraded to breath a little more life in the 6 year old Mac so my boys were not hampered by using the slower machine in their duels with Dad, who gets first dibs on the fast machine upstairs (its unfortunate that they could often beat me with that ancient machine - but we needn't talk about that).
So when I had installed the new cards and found that playing TT was jittery beyond belief, while other games seemed much faster (as one would expect with a faster processor and video card) i cried out to my TT friends.
Great responses from NUTS, Roo, BC and Rx and also Azazel (yes he watches over all of us) who pointed me to the Utility below that I could specifically fine tune for TT to get best performance from it.
It works much better now and much better than before the upgrades, so it was not money thrown away.
Now when the new imacs come out we will get the whole Swift posse playing at once.

Again many thanks for the suggestions and help!

Oh yeah, LC50 gives a shout out to all his tank friends.
Work / life has gotten too busy of late to whirl his turret and 8 ball in our direction.

Hey, I have one of the first generation gooseneck iMacs. I'm not sure of the video card that came with it, but would an app like that work to help an older Mac like mine?

Could very well.
Find out your video card
go to apple menu tab/about this mac/more info/Under Hardware select: Graphics/display
this should show your card's name
Try it out...

to quote Az's note to me :
Radeon vid cards do support OpenGL & there is a cool Radeon tool you
might try if you haven't yet. Once opened, after install, click 3D
and add the ThinkTanks app & from there you can play with a OpenGL
performance slider. Here's a link:

hope it helps!

I tried the OpenGL override with the AGP Radeon 9800 in my Dual 1 GHz G4 tower but couldn't see any difference. I'm guessing that Baba's Radeon 9200 is a PCI card and that's why he sees a difference when I don't.

So ACA, your video is AGP based and probably won't see a benefit.

Map was fast last night but it ended up being free goal central. I don't recall many contested goals in the first game and almost none in the second.

I think we accentuated the free goal system by playing five on five. More tanks in more places led to many, many uncontested goals.

Hugo had eight free goals in one game.

I think he must have given the TT God a happy ending before the match.
