I have been playing lately as The_Raven - not for any nefariious reason - but because my granpa sluggy persona has been pressuring me to allow him a period of rest. Since our last birthday sluggy seems to tire more quickly & distract more easily. I suspect our age is beginning to wear upon him. He is an old fellow - at least as old as am I.
The_Raven is more reserved than sluggy. A darker more somber persona. Less cantankerous but also less sociable. More player than personality. Somewhere between dour, silent GullyFoyle and garralous granpa sluggy. Where slugthog is Rodney & gullyFoyle is Edmond, The_Raven is Edgar - in middle-age, a fading poet bereft of the irony conferred by sluggy's geologic sweep.
Perhaps, once he has rested, once he has rejuvenated; a revitalized Sluggy - his well thumbed copy of Captain Billy's Stone Age Whiz Bag in the hip pocket of his toga - will reassert himself in Scrum. That is not something that I command. My persona are their own masters - and mine.

I have no problem with admin under alias, as long as the warnings are given to to players offending. If you don't like it, then go to a different server. After all, these are private servers put up by people trying to help the community and provide mutual fun and competition. I find it funny when the admin abuse threads occur... if you dont like the admin or game you are in - leave the game and move to ANOTHER private server. Its simple.

I think admins should show their identity, I like admins who always use their regular name. (Like @ure, he's a neat guy.. Atleast I think he doesn't use any aliases
) Admins tend to abuse power more when they're under alias, not to mention you have no idea who you're playing with.

I totally and utterly disagree with that comment AO1. That is just a blind assumption and I have never seen any evidence of that from admins in the popular servers.Admins tend to abuse power more when they're under alias
Personally I virtually always play under my name, on the odd occasion when I do play under alias its usually because I just want to play the game without speaking to anyone or having to carry out admin duties. If I am playing under alias I usually do not sign in, unless I have to.
I have no problem with any admin using an alias as in my view their ability to monitior and control the server does not change, anyway how many time could you put up with PM's asking to be admin, or boss bot, or ufo before you would decide to admin under alias? Believe it or not admins actually like to play the game as well!! Although I would say that if there is a player causing a problem then probably the right thing to do is identify yourself via a PM to the player involved before any action is taken.
I have to say this as its been on my mind for a while now. These threads about admin abuse and the like that occur every now again are usually a complete waste of time. One persons idea of abuse (a term we seem to have adopted which is TOTALLY out of context) compared to another's interpretation is so varied its hardly worth posting in the first place, besides do these type of threads accomplish anything except conflict and the generation of more threads like this one, hmm absolutely not. Being an admin in a server is not about power, its about giving people what they want - a fair fun game without any idiots spoiling it. Do I feel powerful, absolutely not!!! Do any of the other admins I know feel powerful absolutely not!!! But I do feel, like probably other admins do, very responsible for doing the right thing and giving the correct service. Do admins make a mistake, of course we do, if I make a mistake (which I have done on numerous occasions) I feel embarrassed that I have made such an error and always apologize, but it does happen and its not intentional!!! But those who complain hardly ever stop to think whats its like being an admin in a busy popular sever. One minute you will be in the middle of an intense game and playing hard, then all of a sudden you have to stop playing, which leaves your team a man down, and type codes into the server to change a players teams, or to explain to a player the rules of the game. What if the player you are trying to change, or PM has them stupid characters in thie name? I tell you it takes three time longer to do anything then if someone uses normal letters from the alphabet. (BEST SCRIPT EVER IS ARTS GET RID OF SILLY CHARACTERS SCRIPT!!) Then the person who just came in leaves and you have to change things again, and again and again. Which in turn gives the admin less time to play, and disadvantages his team as he is only playing for 80% of the game. Is that abuse, yes its abuse of the admin, but you dont see admins posting so and so player abused me threads do you?
Give the admins a break, they give their time and effort to make this game better for all. If there were no admin's in the servers then there would be something to complain about.
That's off my chest now, Thank You

Firstly, I am not sure why so many players seem to use aliases so much. For me, most of the fun of TT is knowing the players & the relationships etc. Aliases do not allow this. Then there is the advantage a player has under alias, oh a new players I think, oh no, as I die instantly. Better put my gaurd up then.
I understand that being an admin can be a pain, but that should be understood when taking on the admin role.
If admis were known, it would act as a deterrent to bad behaviour, you could also look for trouble free servers when selecting a server.
Going underground to catch people acting up seems a bit odd to me, surely preventing the behaviour seems better to me. By the time someone acts up & others get involved, the game is usually ruined.
As a parent with kids I could also set a rule of playing in admin only servers, as an example, if admin were visible.
The only 'admin abuse' type events I have seen have also only been with admin under alias.

Actually, Dazzle i think this is rather accurate: "Admins tend to abuse power more when they're under alias"
I think this happens quite often.
Actually, wasn't there a recent thread about an Admin using an alias? The alias just happened to be Rogue. I didn't see this person, I just read about it.
Also, I've rarely seen honest complaints about Admins when using their known names. I normally tend to read threads that start with, "Does anyone know who blank blank was Administering in DB?"
If you're an Admin I suggest you use your known name. Why go covert? Is this in hopes that you can catch some people being naughty so you can put some spice/drama into the game?
I'll put it this way. When NUTS' car is in the driveway I never pay a visit to Mrs. NUTS. But when the cat's away...
I'm screwed if he starts putting a cardboard replica of his car in the driveway in order to set up a trap. I'm not very observant.

I hear ya Rogue, perhaps you are right however thats why I wrote " I have never seen any evidence of that from admins in the popular servers" which I never have. If I did see something of that nature I would be sure to point it out to the relevant people. And remember I play at different times to a lot of others so I never see these reported things. But then again perhaps the admins you are referring to only do these things when there are no other admins in the server. As they say "when the cat's away......."
I can only confirm how I personally act if I have my admin hat on and make reasonable assessments and judgments on others that I know and talk with regularly.
I have never been on the receiving end of a bad admin not from when I started playing till now, but then again maybe I am just an all round nice guy.....
