Question for you linux users

ive been using the intel linux drivers with tt and its playable but not as smooth as my 5 year old system. i figured id just go nvidia since there is good support for their cards. i picked up a 7300 and installed its drivers and TT runs worse than on the intel...im really starting to dislike linux...

i got the video working smoothly! i had to do something with the restricted drivers manager. now my sound is a little flaky...i have the alsa drivers installed. any ideas?

Sry to sidetrack your thread Bolo, but how does one use a .bin file in Linux?

I've got the ubuntu live CD supposedly running in persistent mode with a memory stick and I don't know what to do with the TT demo (a .bin file).

^^ what do you mean by flaky? It could just be the way you have it set up. Check if you have the openal packages installed. They should be but if not then that could be causing a problem with TT.

^ check if it's executable (right-click, proprties tab and you should be able to check a box to make it executable). Then click or double-click to run it. If you run into problems try running it from the terminal.

BC this is how I installed TTDemo.

chmod 755 ThinkTanksDemo_v1.1.sh.bin
./ThinkTanksDemo_v1.1.sh.bin

To install the full game just remove Demo part.

This installs the game in your Home Folder makes modding real easy.

I found the "make executable" option Player 36 mentioned and it worked. I'm surprised I didn't find it on my own. I guess I have a bit of a negative attitude about Linux since I'm on the bottom of the learning curve.

Now my problem is that my memory-stick/persistent mode attempt seems to have failed. It sounds like a slick idea but guides for dummies seem to be few and far between. When I search for information I find mostly geek talk from people who seem to prefer doing things the geek way. I just want to play TT on Linux.

Anyone have a good link for getting the memory-stick/persistent mode working on the new ubuntu 7.04? I see memory stick prices are down to the point that the CD is probably not needed.

Hmm, it's probably because you're doing something a bit out of the ordinary, I've never even heard about "memory stick/persistent mode". I think most people just try it on the CD and if they like it they install it to the hard drive. Anyway, I'll look for info about what you want to do and see if i can help.

Oh one more thing, if someone tells you to type a terminal command it's not like they're trying to confuse you or be a geek or something. It's just a lot easier to have somebody copy and paste a couple of commands instead of saying "open this menu, launch the program, click this tab, select this option, put a check by this," etc.
