If we ever get the source code and so on, I'll be happy to help out with the game if I have free time and nothing to do. I usually don't have much free time now with University and such, but I'm guessing I'd still help out plenty.
Hell, without the source code I was able to go as far as stuff like the IP Joiner and ACAS... I wonder what the source code wouldn't be able to do. Of course it's C++, which I've almost never used, but I have plenty of experience with C and C#.
Hell, get a version of the game out with a central login system, included admin scripts, included extra gametypes, news explorer, more tanks, more maps, terrain/mission editor, and so on... I'd love to get most TGE features back into TT (would probably take a lot of work, but possible) so we can go back to old "only with the source-code" ideas and rejuvenate this community.
So yeah, wishing you guys luck on attaining the source. If you do, count me in!

Honestly, we need a team together to put the best foot forward in crafting the future of TT.
Look at the team for Legion that has assembled. That probably helped them negotiate to get the code.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
might it help to ask the Legion team how they were able to acquire the code?
if we knew what their approach was and we know that it was successful it seems logical that we should do the same.

^^
I asked. They worked it out months ago with the now defunct IA. Their suggestion was to contact Torquepowered as Rx did.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
i spent some time reading the posts concerning the announcement of terminating operations. man...they are in some dire straits right now.
it seems as though they are up to their eyeballs trying to figure out their own survival and may not have the time or resources right now to deal with any of our requests and concerns.
quite an interesting development.
seems as though IA was an unmitigated disaster.

If Legions was never a stand alone game capable of generating revenue, they would not be losing much by giving away the code.

True that, though it also may give us some opportunity, might even say leverage.it seems as though they are up to their eyeballs trying to figure out their own survival and may not have the time or resources right now to deal with any of our requests and concerns.
If they can liquify any asset and get some green for it, they might be willing to.
I mean the big thing in their stable is Torque which has many devoted fans and users around the world (I spent some time pouring through the "dire announcement" thread too) including some Department of Defense peeps (or people contracted by them) that are using Torque for game/training uses.
Somehow I doubt a deal for Torque would fall through because a 7 year old Tank game was sold off for near peanuts a few weeks prior.
Now 'bout them peanuts...

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
Just remembered something with this whole IA out of business thing.
Nuts set up a masterserver a few years back as a test when the guys were having such a problem keeping it up. I'm not sure how he did it but it worked. I've got a relic of it floating around in my \ThinkTanks\game\client\prefs.cs file.

Code: Select all
$pref::Master0 = "2:master.garagegames.com:28002";
$pref::Master1 = "2:nuts.servegame.org:28002";

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
It was an open-source Python script you could find for free somewhere in the GG website. No idea if you can still find it there, but I'd guess NUTS still has a copy.Blind Cide wrote:I think NUTS!' master server came with the Torque product he bought.
