Re: Capture The Flag League 3.0: Season Mode
I have been asked to respond (mainly to feathers - who needs to loose his attitude IMHO or is he trying to agitate me on purpose
)
First off I posted BEFORE THE LEAGUE STARTED numerous amounts of information regarding tanks, graphics etc and also included a fix for players who did not want the goal flame animation, a small amount of reading would result in finding this post in the preseason CTF thread and installing the files to remove the flames. For the lazy ones amongst you here is a link: http://planetthinktanks2.com/forums/Thi ... 3&start=40
I also posted here: http://planetthinktanks2.com/forums/Thi ... 30#p103258 about the map special effects, there was no real comment from players on this subject in the thread so before I released the CTF server files to hosters I had a conversation with the league commissioners about the effects and it was decided to leave the effects in for this season and will review at the end ready for the next, as running maps without them is not a problem.
The effects are only IFL animations the same type as tank treads, scrum goals and scrum ball - they are not physical animation and so do not cause the type of lag that which feathers is complaining about. In the first instance I would look at the cause being (as BC said) a network or ISP issue, then again it may have been your own computer (a decent GPU always helps online gaming) and internet connection. Most of us have played on these maps extensively with a full compliment of players, both in my server (which is the worst for most of you guys) and Mr Phobiks and have never experienced server lag due to the game script or map objects. As far as I am aware no one else has been having problems of this nature so it would seem the maps are 100% - as they should be I made them
I hope that clears the subject up, however if there is a majority consensus that the effects should go for league play then it will be up to the commissioners to make the final decision and if there is a change I can easily action it with the hosters.
Happy CTFing

Re: Capture The Flag League 3.0: Season Mode
Sorry about the lag guys. Part may have been my fault. I usually don't use the net during league games for fear that it would cause lag. Well last night I did and even worse I checked the server via remote desktop and that may have been the major lag issue. I've upgraded my net to 50 mg and bought a new router (netgear wndr3700) and I've isolated the rest of the comps in the house to another router. Any other suggestions would be great!
btw Dumbing down the maps shouldn't be the answer. Upgrading comps and connections seems to help the most!

Yeah I have not heard one complaint about the effects causing the lag. I have not experienced it in those games, or pickup games.
I think more likely it was the server or ISP. What we have for servers is what we have... so unless the data center idea gets off the ground, this is it for now.
You can take off the flames as Dazzle said.
Thanks for clearing things up Daz!

It's cause I love ya DazDazzle (UF) wrote:I have been asked to respond (mainly to feathers - who needs to loose his attitude IMHO or is he trying to agitate me on purpose)

There's either a lot of lag, or the internet is conspiring against Team Tankerbel... because every match we've played there has been noticeable lag in-game. In recent memory (i.e. last night's match) it caused me to be chasing the ghost of Blind Cide and only after about 6-10 seconds him actually show up behind me (quite a ways behind me) and kill me.
My new computer can handle Rollerball with no problem and that's perhaps the most intensive game available. And this is handling Rollerball on my school's network... which is saying something right there. I honestly can't figure out what else it could be, cause I'll have to take Dazzle's word that the maps are "fine".

jay vs beli was a split....any results from the other match?
we are having some tight matches as of late. shame there isnt more chatter after the games. at the very least prompt posting of results.

Re: Capture The Flag League 3.0: Season Mode
Gray's team showed with 4 , Tankerbels team eventually had their third player show.
While jangles, Smacky and myself were setting up a Skype chat and talking (yes cross team palaver here) and thus a bit distracted the captains apparently said "game on", the three of us didnt realize that for the longest time and were not playing. Jangles said he would sit to even the teams (he still didnt realize that some considered the game started) then Gray said he was tired and he would go and jangles would play in his place. Jangles took an extended "bio - break" , still not realizing the game was considered started.
So game one was characterized by extremely poor communication between captains and players on both sides.
But since both captains said "game on" it seems it was official and that game went to Tankerbels team. Unsure of the score as I didnt realize it really counted most of the game, then we were down 3-2 for most of the rest of it. Seems like it was around 11-7 score? Though I really dont know for sure.
Game two was evenly contested 3 vs 3 and Grays team won 1-0.
So enter a split into the official record books.

Re: Capture The Flag League 3.0: Season Mode
Are there any maps that are not going to be slanted towards one team or another? Not that I don't like winning and losing all in one game but... it gets old. One map that is even would be a true test of skill, a good last map for the season, perhaps, if we have one.

Re: Capture The Flag League 3.0: Season Mode
imho its always been the achilles heal of CTF, the difficulty of getting a map that doesn't bias one color or the other.
(here I am talking about color bias again....)
Some may be closer than others, but usually seems to be an edge one way or the other, a stronger team can sometimes overcome that edge.
In the mean time be glad we switch colors so no one can fuss too much about it.
