Spring has sprung, 'tis the season for skirts, beer and holidays. People will be back when it gets cold outside.

Players come and players go. Ive seen this cycle many times. Its not dead. This site has 60 some visitors on a daily basis. Id like to think most of them play.
They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash.

If you download the demo from GarageGames, there are no servers for you to go into. I'm going to start running a stock scrum and BM server so we can beat up on the demos again.

Why do people play video games? Why do they switch between video games? Why do they choose to stay with a certain video game, and for how long?

If we can answer these (and similar/related) questions, TT need not die. While not video games, baseball and football (futbol too) have existed for ages - they have stood the test of time. While certain rules have changed, the fundamental games remain relatively undisturbed. Seems video games could potentially have a similar result.

I think the distinction between when something is a "game" vs. a "sport" also plays a role. For many of us, Think Tanks is our "sport." I don't have the desire/time to play tennis like I used to, but I can go home and fire-up TT and: 1)compete 2)proficiently. I have always had trouble staying interested in things I do not perform well at quickly (like golf).

^ good point. i think though a lot of video players are also novelty junkies and tend to move onto the next greatest thing. this game has much that makes it consistently entertaining to me. chiefly, i like you guys. i also like the competition and i am reinforced when i play well.

that said, a major detraction is the descending quality of our servers. don't know what can be done about that, maybe BC's data center based server will be an answer.

but for me it's a major drag to have lag be such an issue and a handicap in play. i know some of you playing from even further away must feel this as well. yeah, maybe not you jay, you lag god. but for mere mortals, lag is a drag and un unfair handicapper.

people keep going back to the "cycles" argument because it appears borne out by past experiences. but winter is typically the time of the highest concentration of players, and this winter was just plain dead. i imagine summer will be even worse, but i hope i'm wrong
