^ I know what you are saying. I don't know which is worse, reading lawyer-ese or reading this thread sometimes.

BTW, we are studying Olde English law in Criminal Law. Fun stuff about what to do when someone takes your stuff running out the door or eats you when you are stranded on a boat. I say, it's better than late night TV.

Get back to me when this gets resolved. :)

I think some of us are missing the point here. So far.....NONE.....of us has paid for IA. Zero, Zip, NADA. It's a flipping BETA. Beta's su.ck. They always do. That's the point. You play the crappy beta to make it better for those who purchase later. It is getting to have a voice in the product development. Unfortunately (myself included), the IA team invited us all to take part in the beta and we are all acting like a bunch of douches saying how bad it sucks on our forum. Heed my previous advice. Play the doomed IA game a bit here and there. Give them feedback. They will make it better. The other alternative is to be S.O.L.
I'm sorry but I think the alternative which by the way kept my attention for 5 years now and going strong is perfectly fine and I don't consider being S.O.L with it.

somehow I think Joes decision to engage with this cantankerous crew the past few days was not as a result of a business strategy hatched by GG/IA.
Those still here like the existing TT game, obviously.
Therefore the thought of permanent migration to a unknown entity is a tough sell.
Yet I think it is to his credit he spelled out clearly what will affect their decisions at IA.
I prefer the communication and the respect inherent within that, though it may not be what we have always wanted regarding development, and upgrading of this game we love.
For me , as a mac user, I have no choice.
When they really bring it up to a functional state - ie make it mac savvy , I will check it out.
In the mean time PSL launch is imminent.
Lep you running TBML this season?

Oh,and RX, let us know, in whatever manner is appropriate, the response you get.

We have enough recourses here to build our own master and run it if necessary. It will die only if we let it.

I could give IA a try if Linux was supported. Until that becomes available I obviously won't be putting any money into IA.

Ugh, now I'm frustrated with the guy.. He runs off without addressing one of the big issues: if he wants a jump-start community for TT IA (which is ideal to his business plan: a jump-start community will mean better feedback and a better game to sell in the long run), then why doesn't he want to accept what we have right now? He gives us a big list of stuff he says we've wanted over the years, some of which we've done on our own. Yet when it comes down the wire, he wants us all to wait for his team to make the stuff, which will not be as good as what we have (by this, I mean the mods, skins, scripts). After all... they aren't going to devote a full team to it, whereas some members here have taken many, many hours making mods and skins and scripts.

Will someone please explain to me why its so hard to accept help from others? It would give him practically free stuff to add to his Beta gae, get him more people to help raise up the game, give him dedicated servers to reduce the lag... Am I missing something here? :tankerconfused:

P.S. I'm also afraid I miss the point of getting mad instead of admitting you have a soft spot for something. Yes, I suppose I brought that much on, my bad. But I don't get why is such a big deal to admit it... :tankerconfused:

Hi All,

To summarize the message from Joe, here is the situation, but the discussion is continuing and will of course take some time to figure out.

TT's integration into the Torque game Engine (TGE) is too tight for us to outright buy the game. This is because selling TGE itself is a substantial business. This would cost in the millions and is not going to happen.

Buying the rights to TT is possible. But there would be significant legal/contract issues that would be costly to work through. Not to mention this would require starting a business to manage sales of the game, accounting, etc. But I am pleased to say that this option is on the table. GG would need to retain the rights to the IA version obviously, as well as the TGE code.

Another option is for us to license the rights to ongoing development, but GG retains the intellectual property (IP) and would retain rights to improvements we make, etc. This is probably the most realistic option and I am trying to explore this one some more. We would essentially be doing the development "under their umbrella" and would not require transfer of ownership. There could be a revenue sharing arrangement in this case.

Personally I don't care about making money from this (there are far more lucrative ways to turn time into money). But I do want to explore some kind of co-development arrangement, as it seems quite logical.

Bottom line: the CEO and Joe are open to ideas. I think this is great. I think GG is an innovative company, it is certainly small enough to be flexible, so I am optimistic. I'll keep you posted of course.

Now this one makes sense to me. I really don't see a downside for GG on this one. They get a updated game that they can sell for contracting the development out. They also maintain IP rights to the game and protect TGE. Even a small amount of revenue sharing could go to the people who do the development. Or in could go to fund a dozen dedicated servers, dedicated download site, etc... and of course we get TT2.

Kind of makes it a win - win for both parties... as long as it is done correctly and fairly.

An interesting business scenario when you think about it.

Ok
So say we get a Development licence to work in tandem with GG
It costs us little and benefits everyone...whats the chances of getting ahold
of the original CTF scripts ?

Mind you I do appreciate Art Crazy's hard work at recreating this classic
but the original game type is what reeled me in...
