Agree -- it's all relative. Japanese internment camps were pretty progressive for their time, too. I mean, come on, at least they didn't gas 'em, right?

I think you are smart enough to realize that my reference was to the relativity of their morals as relates to the standard morality for their time. Unless you think your parents and grandparents were Hitlers in the making. Then I have no argument and you win. Congratulations. Go pat yourself on the back.
At least pretend to try to understand the other side. That will go a long way in furthering your intelligence.

It's good to know that graduate degrees don't count too much towards intelligence. It's just proof that time was wasted on book learning and not on time learning to be human. Apparently you are OK sitting in judgment behind the facelessness of the internet. I wonder how forthright you'd be with the smart alecky attitude in person.
Just curious how much of your real personality is revealed on PTT2.
BTW, I'll have CY make one for you. It's pretty nice.

Heh, good response Baba. By that logic we should all be looking to England for guidance.

Try googling "socialist" instead. Might get better results.NUTS! wrote:For the life of me I am trying to find an example of a socialistic state
For the life of me I am trying to find an example of a teaparty activist who understands Marxism and can make a cogent argument as to why Obama should be considered a socialist.
Would also like to see feedback from all the administration critics on this (Reducing the Deficit) short article about deficit solution options. Let's get you on the record now with a position on either the necessary tax increases, spending cuts or a combination of both....before Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh tell you what to think about future proposals.

Why many consider Obama a socialist:
A couple of wiki quotes on socialism... (I assume we will be able to agree on it...we can go to marx and engels who say similar things....but take much longer to say them) .
"Socialism refers to the various theories of economic organization which advocate either public or direct worker ownership and administration of the means of production and allocation of resources"
Under Obama student loans are going governmental ( a huge sector of finance now controlled by gov. ); Health care soon will be government controlled; General Motors...obama making chairman of the board like decisions for GM was rather shocking and perhaps unprecedented. They are administering the means of production (not to any great extent, but on a larger scale than ever before). During this time when the private sector is cutting jobs and cutting salaries, the government is adding jobs and raising salaries. Tea-partiers (20% of them dem according to Gallup) are correct to regard what we are witnessing as an application or influx of socialism.
Another wiki quote: "Socialists generally share the view that capitalism unfairly concentrates power and wealth among a small segment of the society and controls capital and derives wealth through a system of exploitation"
This sentiment is seen in many of Obama's speeches and in the democratic party in general. Tax the rich, demonize those who are highly successful. Obama tried to comfort us by telling us that only the rich will be taxed at a higher rate (Classic Marxist sentiment: appeal to the proletariat and stir them up. "Make those rich people pay!"). During the health care debate, Obama spoke of the abusive insurance companies. The bill is designed to ultimately squeeze them out. The bill taxes medical device makers at a huge rate! Why? What did they do to deserve this? Keep people's hearts beating on time? Deliver accurate doses of insulin thus saving the lives of those with type one diabetes? Nope. They made a profit...a large portion of which they plowed back into research so they could be even more innovative. The Bas@@rds! Abusing us like that! They must pay! Classic Marx-like sentiment (Karl not Groucho).
Perhaps not all Tea party folk can give a cogent argument of why obama is a socialist, But they still use the term correctly. They see our government doing what socialists did in the past, albeit in a benign fashion in comparison to what the U K went through in the 60's. So whether they make grand philosophical arguments during their rallies or not, they do sense the wrongness of what is happening and they are reacting. They will vote.
