Yes you can totally use the built in mic on your laptop with Skype. You can also use headphones to hear and the built-in mic to speak. These inputs & outputs are independently selected in the Preferences - go to Audio.

I've often used the built in mic and earbuds for voice... it works fine. Just don't use the built in mic and built in speakers. The feedback you'll get is horrendous.

You do send some ambient noise, but you can adjust the gain to eliminate most of it.

We used voice chat for many seasons in TBML without a big issue.. we stopped because people were getting angry at each other, not because of the lag it created. (we mostly used Yahoo Voice for these games).

I can't see how this would effect game play, especially since so many people have been playing scrum on voice chat without issues (primarily Skype). I have seen 6-7 people in a conversation... and no one complaining about lag or anything....

I think the dynamic this adds to team play and cooperation, not to mention an interesting addition to the strategies of each team, far outweigh any reasons to not try this during the season.

Hey Guys and Gals
Some advice that might help:

@Baba a headset with mic is best and yes I used to run voice off a laptop - wirelessly

@hosters - make sure nothing is set for Auto Updates - virus apps and / or OS updates

@voice chat users in general - Its best to connect your voice app first then start TT
(This was the more stable setup on a single computer)

I got a pair of really cheap headphones and mic for 10 euro in Germany, but you can find them around 10 dollars in the USA. They still work even though they look like they are going to fall apart any second.

Yes you can use the built in microphone with the laptop, but I would also recommend using ear buds so everybody doesn't hear echos of themselves.
