I got my answer to my own question.
Went on IA with OofFa earlier: 2 servers up, went in one & it froze. Went in the other & it was laggy as a laggy thing & crashed. I may not have twiddled the oogimaflips on my PC correctly for it to run properly, but then again, I don't know how to twiddle puters. Everything else works...
Therefore can't play...

IA sounds like it should be an acronym for Instantly Annoyed.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
I'm not quite understanding all the criticism. Joe made a business decision that seems pretty rational. TT stopped turning enough of a profit -- based on a $20 a pop sales model -- to warrant continued investment. Could more investment drive more profit? Perhaps. But he bet 'no' and I would think he's probably pretty good at making those kind of bets...better than most of us.
His new bet? A subscription model will drive a bigger, longer, recurring revenue stream and enable more long-term investment in the titles and the community. Good bet? Hard to tell right now. Seems like he's got some product gaps -- at least where TT is concerned -- that are going to make it challenging. Does he want all of us to move over to IA to help drive the growth? Absolutely. Is he forcing or coaxing or misleading us into making the switch? No. Do we deserve any more than that? Not a chance.
If I'm to criticize it would only be on the substance of his interactions with this community. Too much logic. Not enough emotion. And perhaps a poor decision to interact at all.
Give the guy a break. It's business.
I'll be interested to see how he responds to Rx and a serious business proposal. If he's smart, it won't be on this board.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
The criticism makes sense to me 44.
The idea of a subscription based game is probably the only way sustainable income is possible. However, before asking folks to come and play the heck out of it shouldn't it work? I've not read a post by those who have tried it state they prefer it or that's it's entirely functional. Why would they then play it on a daily basis?
Offering a functional product surely should be the primary objective. Am I wrong? I'm sure some would respond with the fact that it's a work in progress. However, it looks like people have tried it and do not prefer it based on the noted functionality flaws. Wouldn't the logical step be to fix it and then ask people to come give it another shot? Or, have fixes been already made? I don't know...
Back off dolts, I'm not being a prick with this post.
As far as fixing or updating the stand alone version, no, that probably doesn't make sense. Unless you wanted to show off a game to promote your brand for that reason only. "Hey, if you love this game check out our others," to me would be the way to go. Selling something that partially works, in my opinion, is bad biz.
That said, for the above reasons of functionality I don't believe he knows more than your average Joe. Pun intended.

yes , it seems so patently obvious even to this non business mind.
I get furious when someone wants to charge me real money for beta quality goods.
That is if I could even play....

@44:
However, I'll wait to see what Joe says next before hanging him. Who knows, maybe he'll turn over a new leaf.
He's probably had more experience than most of us on those bets, yes. Could he have made more than $20 a person here? Absolutely. I think the majority of us would be more than willing to pay another $20 for updates. Heck, just adding all the mods/scripts/skins the outstanding members of this community have made make it worth $40 to te new user. That's quality stuff.44 wrote:I'm not quite understanding all the criticism. Joe made a business decision that seems pretty rational. As I said in my post two pages ago.. he will not get most of us to switch without integrating the old with the new. In addition to such, he refuses to offer Mac or Linux capability. And, to put a head on it, he "asks" us to join/buy TT IA, while promising updates in the future. Which, of course, does not technically mean anything unless its in writing (which even then is not always definite).44 wrote:His new bet? On this, I agree. He made a logical choice to start this conversation in an attempt to get more money for TT IA, but he has, so far, offered nothing concrete in return. And I, too, am interested in his response to the Rx/Jangles offer.44 wrote:If I'm to criticize it would only be on the substance of his interactions with this community. Too much logic.
