Re: The Future of TT from GG!
@Joe,
Since the business plan for GG is to push IA, I say "go for it and good luck". I personally cannot play because I use a Mac.
If improving the stand-alone version of TT is definitely NOT in the future plans for GG, I ask you this:
Why not sell the rights to the game to us? There are many financially solvent adults here, some incredibly talented and committed programmers, and a strong community of passionate gamers who LOVE this game the way it is. What's more, many of us also know exactly where we want to take things. Just some modest tweaks here and there would make this a true classic game with lasting appeal. What you underestimate imho is the power of a community, and in particular the passion and dedication of this particular community.
So I am serious when I pose the question: would GG be willing to sell the rights to the game to the community? You can respond via PM if you'd like.
To me this is the obvious path forward. You gave birth to a true gem, and I plan to stay with it as long as there is an internet and electricity coming to my house and an extended family of brothers and sisters a mouse-click away. I think open-sourcing this and letting the community push this forward would be a truly amazing thing, and a way for GG to get value from a discarded product. Could be a major win-win.
I know that GG might not want to do this because it could be perceived that the stand-alone would compete with IA. But I don't see it that way, as the 2 versions appeal to different kinds of communities. In fact I would say it would be wise to seed both options to see which will be wildly successful.

@ Woot
The fabulous part of this website is that it shows when someone goes back and edits there posts.
Joe:
I have played the IA version a few times on windows and mac. I have made and/or sent suggestions to IA. From my point of view I find it hard to go play half a game. Why should I go and play a game that only uses part of my screen, has no admin capability, no modding, no dedicated servers, and only two game types. When I can get everything here.
If IA were to make the game fullscreen, have the abilty to throw up a dedicated server etc. I may go back. If IA were to use the Unreal model that not only do you get the game you also get an editor/modder as well. That would be to nice. Its just my biased opinion that GG seems to be dropping the ball with TT. You have a very playable game that does need a major overhaul. Again if you copied the Unreal model I would bet you would more than make your money back. Plus, come on is not TT perfect for the wii? Heck if I could code like a half monkey I would quit my job and make TT for the wii.

In your original post you were asking baba basically what he has done for the community. But I see since then that you have then gone and edited your post. Which is why I made my high opinion comment. I would ask that you keep me out of your little comments as well.Last edited by wOOt on Tue Sep 02, 2008 6:36 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
this conversation is unreal in the circles its going in.
i too have not played IA as i am also a Mac user, though i have tried and been turned away. as has been said...not a great selling point for the new product.
i gather that Joe has, in the nicest terms, said that TT is of no concern to them anymore. they have more profitable products they wish to spend their time on. so be it. we are a tight and dedicated community but i doubt our numbers make for attractive quarterly earnings. if the makers do not believe in the product they have produced, despite the almost unanimous voice coming from this community to the contrary, i don't see what else can be done.
it would be interesting to see what a group of individuals who believed strongly in this game could do with growing its popularity and extending its life. unfortunately, barring open source or selling the license to the community, i dont see it happening.
what the game is today is mostly due to the community. i would be long gone if it were not for PSL and the likes of Rx, Dash, Roo, and many other long timers. i will probably play TT for as long as the leagues run and the core group of individuals are around to participate. unfortunately...the ranks are growing thinner and i imagine my departure is sooner than i might expect.

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
I cant be bothered even checking out IA after reading these comments.
I am not a hardcore TTer like some of you, just love dropping in a few times a week to have a laugh with friends and some fun.
I cant see us getting our hands on the game code, but if it is offered, I will chuck in some bucks.
Would be great to have some improvements slipped into the game, but I reckon it will live on for ages in the present form, its a classic.
Cheers and More Beers

Re: The Future of TT from GG!
What is the state of the IA game at present?
I have only ever played with someone else on their account, just popping in to have a look over the last year whilst it was a Beta. The last time I played was when we had the last round of posting with Joe. At that time I didn't enjoy the experience & various suggestions for improvements were made.
So, have the major issues such as lag, swear filters etc etc been addressed by GG on the IA version or is it the same? If it has taken some giant steps forward I may make the effort to see how I can get to play it.
Fundamentally though I can't see the missus letting me getting hooked into another game, I have just got TT in a balance where I am on speaking terms. I am an old fart, so my allegiannce will remain with TT. Although, saying that I am loaded, so I could buy the new IA version & not play it much, same result for GG.
@ Dazzle - Can you provide an update, you seem to talk most sense regarding the IA version?

IA sounds like it should be an acronym for Instantly Annoyed.
