CLIENT RECEIVE SCRIPT - Required for Phobik's Servers

I've been working on some stuff that involves client sided scripts, to improve how players interact with my servers.
By installing the script from the link below, I can create things that require client sided scripts without you having to do anything - making things much easier on your side. Just a one time install.
I'll be able to create things like scoreboards for example(replacing that crappy Top 3 Players thing) and much more. This script will add a lot of new features, which is why it's very important you install it.

If you download the Daz pack for Windows or Mac as of the date of this post, it will come with this script pre-installed. Click Here to download the Daz pack.

**Update: Script is now more secure - will only allow commands from MY servers through a domain/IP check.
Installation is simple.
Download the script: Click Here

Navigate to your TT files (ie. C:\Program Files\Bravetree), and place the script in game/client. Then add this line to the end of your main.cs

If installed correctly, you should get a message saying the script has been successfully installed when you join my servers.

If you need any help with this, either respond here in this thread, or e-mail me at Mr_Phobik at hotmail dot com and I'll help you out!

..and if you don't install this script, you'll get an annoying message every time you join my servers :tankertongue:

Note: This in no way gives me any access to files outside the ThinkTanks directory. I will only be able to update TT files. Think of it as a built in updater, just like almost all other games have.

Re: Please install this script..

Hi AC..
I think a simple PM would have been fine - or even a post WITHOUT the source to the script, and stating all the POSSIBLE problems to get the paranoid folks even more paranoid.

Initially I had an IP check included with the script, but removed it as I move my server around a lot. I was planning on adding a domain check, but decided to do it later on.

I suppose out of all the problems you posted, the only real issue would be a .dll exploit - which I have no interest in. There is no such thing as an "untrusted" server on TT. As far as I know, none of the current players have any knowledge of programming - and I doubt a "hacker" would come to TT to have some fun. This game has been around for 10(?) years, and not once has there been any incident of hacking.

I'm only trying to improve the game as much as possible without the source. This script helps a lot, as players don't have to worry about installing anything.

The quit function is from some testing I was doing a while back, and it seems I forgot to remove it.

Re: Well done Mr Phobik !

Are you allowed to reveal why or how this happened? I'm sure a lot of us are curious.

Long story short, an exploit was released for SolusVM (a very popular control panel for companies that provide servers) which allowed an attacker to perform any command on all nodes. This was a zero-day exploit so shortly after it was released, many companies that use this control panel were hacked.

The company I host the majority of my servers with (including PTT2) was also hacked.
“Around 3am Eastern Standard Time (EST) today, there was a security breach, due to a vulnerability in SolusVM that allowed a command line to be run to dump the SolusVM client database and attempt to delete all data from our nodes. Our staff is working tirelessly to get everything back online, along working with SolusVM to address the root issue and no furthur impact is expected.”

Unfortunately, the hackers were successful in deleting all data and dumping the database. This resulted in all servers being wiped. I did not have automated daily backups running for the forums, so the latest backup I had was of around 4 months ago.

I've now set up things differently, and have daily backups of the forums/database. If anything ever happens again, it won't be much of a problem to restore the forums.

Re: Well done Mr Phobik !

On a side note, I've restored the PTT1 archives which can be accessed by clicking on the 'PTT1 Archives' link under the site logo.
Master server statuses are also available for both GarageGames and my master server.

Re: no servers?

I was in the states for the weekend and just got back today. I apologize for the downtime and will sort out the master server issues within the upcoming days.
